I'm not a registered doctor, yet. Right now I'm a Certified Pharmacy Technician trying to get into Pharmacy school. Each week I plan to explore a different topic in the medical field. Due to some certain fun loving pregnant women I had to pleasure to play apples to apples with (still a sore loss) my first topic will be on prenatal vitamins.<br /> Prenatal vitamins are specially formulated multivitamins that make up for any nutritional deficiencies in the mother's diet. There three main components are the folic acid, iron, and calcium.<br /> Folic acid is especially important in reducing the risk of having a child with a serious birth defect of the spinal cord and brain. Some natural forms of folic acid are green leafy vegetables, beans, nuts, and most citrus fruits.<br /> Calcium during pregnancy can help a mother from losing bone density since the fetus uses the mineral for bone growth.<br /> Iron helps the blood carry oxygen for the mother and baby. <br /> Most prenatal vitamins contain a different array of vitamins and minerals in them. The FDA suggest this balance.<br /><ul><li>4,000 and 5,000 IU (international units) of vitamin A</li><li>800 and 1,000 mcg (1 mg) of folic acid</li><li>400 IU of vitamin D</li><li>200 to 300 mg of calcium</li><li>70 mg of vitamin C</li><li>1.5 mg of thiamine</li><li>1.6 mg of riboflavin</li><li>2.6 mg of pyridoxine</li><li>17 mg of niacinamide</li><li>2.2 mcg of vitamin B12</li><li>10 mg of vitamin E</li><li>15 mg of zinc</li><li>30 mg of iron</li></ul>This concludes my session for this week. I believe "WOW" would have to be an <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">appropriate</span> word to describe my experience. It reminded me of my high school summer youth conferences growing up. While I might seem to have been a bit conservative there... my love for such an active praise and worship was more alive than ever.
